Building on the success of past five conferences in South Africa, Value 2016 will be the sixth biennial international Value conference hosted by the Faculty of Economic and Financial Sciences, University of Johannesburg in conjunction with the Journal of Economic and Financial Sciences (JEF).

The understanding of the term ‘value’ varies from person to person and from discipline to discipline. For profit-oriented organisations the main focus might be on adding financial value to ensure organisational viability. Adding and recognising value may be useful for a growing business with innovative ideas on learning critical lessons for managing the 21st century marketplace.

The concept of ‘value’ seems to be a self-evident statement, but it is a matter that is receiving surprisingly little attention by researchers. ‘Value’ is not only complex because of the extraordinary mix of worldviews, issues, interests, perceptions and resources, but also because of the interdependent and systemic interaction between all the different factors and “the way to go” when it comes to research in all disciplines that is rooted in financial management and modern economics.

Specialists from accounting, finance, banking, taxation, economics, education, historians and other related fields will shed light on fundamental issues that shape and define “value”, and the forward thinking associated within value.
An array of keynote speakers as well as a panel discussion will also provide in-depth, practical and up-to-date knowledge on issues and developments relating to the conference theme. They will highlight their insights on “the way to go” with “value-added” and modern research.

The central theme of this highly acclaimed conference is based on the understanding and utilisation of the concept of ‘value’ within a broader finance focus. The conference slogan of “the way to go” is based on the needs and challenges that all disciplines in financial and economic sciences face in our modern time and society. In a nutshell the conference will provide researchers and academics alike with a platform to indicate, showcase, present their research ideas and trends for “the way forward” and “the way to go” in all financial related disciplines.
